Meet Callid’s 1797 organ!

[ EN ] Surely you are always deeply touched when listening to music on the organ, especially in the sacral spaces… You may have heard that the famous movie director Alfred Hitchcock said that while shooting his cult film Psycho, he felt like leading the audience playing the organ… Have you ever wanted to experience how it feels for an organist to play that most complex of all instruments, the queen of instruments? We make it possible for you!

As part of the 22nd International Organ Festival “Organum Histriae” www.organum-histriae.com on Thursday, September 2nd, 2021 at 5 p.m. we are waiting for you in Motovun, a picturesque medieval gem of the interior of Istria. A day later, on Friday, September 3, 2021. The organ concert "Blossoming youth" by young organists Mladen Bonomi and Dubravka Ćepulić Polgar will be held at the same place starting at 8 pm as part of the festival.
 
In the church of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Servits, which is located at the entrance to the old town of Motovun, temporarily until the return to the main church of St. Stephen the First Martyr is kept by a valuable organ made in 1797 by Gaetano Callido, the most famous student of the Venetian-Dalmatian School of Organ Building of Don Petar Nakić - Pietro Nacchini. The organ was restored in 2006 with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Croatia, the Region of Istria and the Veneto region in the famous “Premiata Fabbrica Organi Cav workshop. Francesco Zanin”, and after the renovation of the choir they will be returned to their home position.
 
Through a guided tour for a group of up to 15 people (in CRO/EN/ITA language), Elena Roce (artistic and organological director and producer) and Krešimir Klarić (artistic-organological consultant and production assistant) will introduce the participants to:
  • The Venetian-Dalmatian School of Architecture of Don Petar Nakić - Pietro Nacchini, whose Gaetano Callido was the most famous student and will provide insight into copies of the original contracts and correspondence of Mr. Callido with the Parish of Motovun;
  • Andrija Motovunjanin - Andrea Antica Da Montona (music publisher, printer of the first collection of intabulated (adapted for organ) vocal frottos and its significance for Motovun, Istria and Croatia) related to the biennial organ competition A. Motovunjanin within the project Organum Histriae;
  • Short concert performance - musical demonstration on the organ;
  • Participants will have the opportunity to try their hand at playing Callid's organ under the supervision of the hosts and will be able to get photos, which will be published on the social networks of the organizers with their consent.
